Question about Whey, Glucosamine/MSM?
Runner’s Question: Okay, so, I’m working for a 300 for my PT test (army) and the only thing holding me back is my run. I have a couple questions however.
Would whey protein help if i take it after a run? I know it it for primarily for muscle mass but im wondering if it would help with the muscle recovery for the next run as well as improve the primary muscles used via running.
Also my question about glucosamine/MSM. Im running pretty much 4 times a week on legs that have both been broken throughout my life. (amongst other beatings on them)… I am noticing pain more and more lately in my knees as well as a crackling noise when i sit/kneel. Would glucosamine/MSM help with that or is that basically a “placebo” drug?
Thanks for and answers and i apoligize for the long question(s)

As a former Army Officer and someone who never scored below a 300 on a PT test in over 4 years in the Army I feel like somewhat of an expert on this subject.
I actually noticed a lot of soldiers who did the same thing as you are. These men would go to the gym everyday and work out but just could not max out the run no matter how hard they tried. I noticed that the ones that started taking muscle protein actually started getting slower running as they got bigger which was strange to me.
A couple of theories I came up with, one is that they were simply gaining mass; therefore, had more body weight to carry and made them slower runners. Another is that these guys were more dehydrated than others because of the excess protein they were taking. But I think most importantly, the 2-mile run on the Army PT test (we often ran 6-10 miles for PT in the 82nd Airborne which made it easy to see gauge runners’ abilities) is a long distance race. The best distance runners have little muscle as opposed to sprinters. So if anything, you are just getting more mass which is not suited for long distances.
I don’t know anything about MSM.
I recommend you just run as much as you lift weights and you’ll have the perfect balance required to max the PT test. Good luck attaining that 300 and being an elite Army person!
Some good advice. I actually don’t know anything about MSM either, but I’ve seen it in glucosamine supplements, and it’s what I’m currently taking.
Some people claim that glucosamine and MSM have cured or improved their joint pains.
I tried it and did not notice any differences.
You need protein after a hard work out.
It doesn’t have to be whey protein.
Protein is needed for muscle repairs, and it works for all muscles in your body.
Nice blog, what comment spam thing do you use?
The cured laid on our body, I got an experience with my dog who got thru hip dyplasia. She consumed 2 tablets of glucosamine with msm and esther c. The suplements help her to produce the joint fluid but to move the bone she swim everyday. It took about 5 months until the hip of my 2 years friend is normal. I agree with barber that u need to take exercise. I recomend hydrotheraphy
