Runner’s Question: I recently started running and doing about 40-50 miles per month for the last three months…and bought a $140 pair of sneakers at the start…are sneakers just like tires? How many miles should I put on these sneakers before getting a new pair. Bare in mind I only use the pair to run in.

When they are all worn out through them at your enemy
Good pair of mine 1-2 months.
“The estimated lifespan of most shoes is 300 to 500 miles.”
Or…
“Watch for depression creases in the midsole. Replacing shoes at the right time is not as easy as watching for a worn outer sole. The foam midsole breaks down quicker than the carbon outsole.”
usually people say 3-6 months if your a heavy runner. i’ve been in the military over six years and run almost everyday, and I just got my third pair, and never had any problems like shin splints or back aches
If the inner paddings are tearing, change the sneakers. The time depends on you -
I’m a runner, so I know something about this. Don’t take my word as law, though.
Running shoes will tend to wear out from the outside first, so if the outside of the treads wears out before the middle of the treads, don’t worry. However, if the treads in the middle or especially on the sides of your feet that face each other when standing start wearing out, I usually start looking for a new pair.
I would think that your shoes will last you anywhere from half a year to three-fourths of a year, depending on terrain, footstrike, and design of the shoes ($140 shoes do tend to last longer than the cheaper $100 ones though).
I usually take my shoes in to a reputable running store and have them look at them to see if I need to replace them. Although some of the bigger stores will tell you to get a new pair whether or not you need them, most smaller stores will give you an honest assessment. Sometimes you can get away with just replacing the insole. But I’ve also heard that it just depends on how hard you are on your shoes. There really is no magic number… Hope that helps.
Try to keep them as long as you can.
This is a deal we seldom hear about. The nature of the job that our Spec Ops ring customers have to perform is so complicated that it is often downplayed. You very seldom hear about anything that they do in the line of combat but you need to know that they are probably responsible for an large number of successful operations where they have scored stunning victories that we will never hear about.
The only thing that I can tell you is this operation ocurred in Logar Province in Afghanistan and that two Special Forces ring customers were awarded the silver star, twelve were awarded the bronze star, and there were two ARCOM’s awarded with the V for valor.
I like to take opportunities to recognize these troops whenever possible because the average person has no clue of the job that they do. We hear about the operations of our Special Forces ring customers from time to time but we never hear about the level of their committment. They don’t seek recognition but they surely deserve it. Good for them.
